24. Paudie O’Sullivan (Cloyne)
The relatively untested full back Eoin Dillon should know his rating after facing the power of Galway’s Joe Cooney if they come face to face and this duel could be where the outcome of the match is decided. At midfield , Cork introduce another newcomer in Lorcan McLoughlin in place of seasoned campaigner Jerry O’ Conner, who has been one of Cork’s more consistant players of the past decade. Both Cussen and O’Halpin are both starting , this may lead to a variety of interchange between the fowards as the game plans out.

Cork Footballers Defeat Mayo

Cork had a comprehensive victory over Mayo in NFL division 1 final at Croke Park.
This was a very poor final and must have been a hugh disappointment to the crowd of around 27,000 that attended. Mayo were desperately short of passion and played at a pace bordering lack of interest, where was the drive they showed when both sides met 2 weeks ago in prelim to the final, could it be that Cork were not showing their true potential on that occasion.

Cork led by 0 – 9 to Mayo 0 – 4 at half time , 5 of Cork’s forwards were all on the scoresheet.
The second half was a damp squib , Donncha o’ Connor added has a storming match ending with a 1 – 05 tally . The Cork midfield were totally dominant with the experiment of playing Aidan Walsh to partner Alan O’Connor paying dividens , he had a fine game and contributed 1 point. Conor Counihan has now taken Cork to successive league titles and the contested last years All Ireland final, he must be on the right track , this augurs well for the championship bearing in mind he has introduced a numbers of newcomers to the panel.

Cork v Mayo Football Result

Mayo arrived at Pairc Ui Chaoimh today, hoping to achieve victory over Cork and thus set up another meeting between the pair for the Allianz NFL Division 1 final. Both teams contested the first half with some nice passages of play, however in second half the hunger for victory was more evident in the men from the west.

As Cork were already qualified ,it would be difficult to assess the true merit of their performance , such was the beauty of the day ,a sense of relaxation prevailed. We shall await the next encounter with keen anticipation.
Final Score: Cork 0-11 Mayo 0-16

Dinny Allen is a hero .

Yesterday’s Sunday Independent contained a front page article by Damian Lawlor.
Allen vented his frustration about the GAA investigation into Nemo Rangers goodwill gesture to Irish Rugby . Denis Allen spoke his mind during his playing career ( at a cost to himself) , can he be punished again for his forthright way of thinking, I would hope not , I am glad to see he was ably supported by Colin Corkery, maybe they should have more support from the silent majority .

How silly can the GAA get . I believe that President Cooney can bring some common sense to the affair, at least he is advocating that County teams should try and spend their money at home in this time of money crisis, this shows he is thinking true value for being Irish , I hope he can inject equal thought into the Nemo affair and influence the implementation of changes to legislation and avoid any further embarrassment to the GAA. The GAA is a great organisation which plays a major part in Irish culture, I don’t believe that Denis Allen derives any satisfaction from castigating the GAA , rather he would want to be proud of the ASSOCIATION that opens up new horizons and buries old traditions.

Cork Defeat Tipperary in Allianz National Hurling League

Cork 1 – 16 Tipperary 1 -15
Cork entertained Tipperary for today’s Allianz NHL division 1 game at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Cork won by a single point and qualify for the NHL final.
The match which was a preview of what may happen in the forthcoming Munster championship when both sides meet again at the venue. Cork played with the aid of nice breeze in the opening half and led Tipperary at the Interval by 0 – 11 to 0 – 7 . Cork should have led by a greater margin but for a matter of missing a few goal scoring opportunities.

Tipp came out with all guns blazing and dominated the opening stages of the second half, they scored the first goal of the game and added some points to go in front 1 – 12 to Corks 0 – 11. However, with both sides hungry for victory there was intensity to the match although Cork needed the win more . Cork got the goal which brought them back into contention and edged back in front with 6/7 Min’s left on the clock. Both Managers will be happy with outcome as neither side played their probable first team.
