Cork To Play Galway In Challenge Match In Castlelyons
Cork Senior Hurling team will play the Galway Senior Hurling team in a challenge match in Castlelyons newly renovated pitch.
Castlelyons G.A.A Club had an extensive amount of upgrades performed to their playing field, the pitch is now officially opened and this Senior Inter County match will take place on Sunday the 16th of May at 5pm to mark the official re-opening.
Both teams are expected to field strong lineouts and it should be an exciting encounter as this is a rematch of the recent National League Final and also a build up for both teams towards the championship.
A great day in Castlelyons should be expected.

Cussen Likely To Miss Championship Opener

It is believed that Michael Cussen will not be in the starting line up when Cork open their All Ireland Senior Hurling Championshiop campaign against Tipperary in four weeks time.
Cussen who had opted to focus his eye on hurling this year suffered an injury to his hand during the clash against Galway on Sunday night in the Allianz National Hurling League final defeat.
He managed to see out the the seventy minutes of match play but a scan later showed a broken bone.
Tipperary who are last year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists are due to play Cork in Pairc Ui Caoimh on the 30th of May and now Denis Walsh is left with some thinking to do in order to find a replacement option up front to please the expected large rebel crowd who will be attending the opening championship game.

Galway defeat Cork in League Final.
The Allianz National Hurling league final was decided by a sextet of forwards who outhurled the Cork back division , Eoin Dillon failed to curtail Joe Canning who notched up 1- 5 from play, the difference in scores at the end.
Dillon is not alone and whatever full back contains Canning to 1 or 2 scores from play will have earned his crust. The sides were level after 20 mins and at half time Galway led 2 – 12 to Cork’s 1 – 11.
Ben O’ Connor contributed 4 points for Cork , two of these coming from the sideline ball, John Gardiner chipped in with 3 points , but the second half belonged completely to Galway ,who were deserving winners for first time since 2004.

Cork Progress To Munster Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final
Cork overpowered Tipperary in the first round of the Munster SHC at Pairc Ui Chaoimh today. The first half was evenly contested but with two goals from Pat Horgan (one being a penalty) giving Cork a two point advantage at half time 2 – 05 to 0 – 09.
Most analysts at the half time discussions generally believed the more youthful Tipperary side would overcome this Cork challenge in the later stages of the game.
However , the majority of those Cork players have surmounted many crisis during the last 10 years , Cusack, O’hAilpin,Curran, Gardiner,Kenny,McCarthy, Ben & Gerry have faced many hurdles both on & off the field, their determination and leadership lifted the younger players to raise the bar. The fact that Tipperary were held scoreless from play in the second half speaks volumes for the Cork team. It would be unwise all the same to get carried away as I am sure Tipperary would be a different proposition when they are motivated like the Cork team was today. Pat Horgan with 2 -02 and Aisake with 1- 01 were the main scorers, with points from Naughton, McCarthy, Ben O’Connor,Gardiner and Paudie O’Sullivan.
The manager and his team can take the plaudits for the tactical win on the day., and I think Donal Og’s save from Eoin Kelly is worthy of mention.
