Cork Progress To Munster Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final
Cork overpowered Tipperary in the first round of the Munster SHC at Pairc Ui Chaoimh today. The first half was evenly contested but with two goals from Pat Horgan (one being a penalty) giving Cork a two point advantage at half time 2 – 05 to 0 – 09.
Most analysts at the half time discussions generally believed the more youthful Tipperary side would overcome this Cork challenge in the later stages of the game.
However , the majority of those Cork players have surmounted many crisis during the last 10 years , Cusack, O’hAilpin,Curran, Gardiner,Kenny,McCarthy, Ben & Gerry have faced many hurdles both on & off the field, their determination and leadership lifted the younger players to raise the bar. The fact that Tipperary were held scoreless from play in the second half speaks volumes for the Cork team. It would be unwise all the same to get carried away as I am sure Tipperary would be a different proposition when they are motivated like the Cork team was today. Pat Horgan with 2 -02 and Aisake with 1- 01 were the main scorers, with points from Naughton, McCarthy, Ben O’Connor,Gardiner and Paudie O’Sullivan.
The manager and his team can take the plaudits for the tactical win on the day., and I think Donal Og’s save from Eoin Kelly is worthy of mention.
