Derry Gowen (RIP)   07/12/2017

It is with regret we announce the passing of Derry Gowen, (RIP) Fermoy, former Chairman and President of the Cork County Board.
Derry was an absolute true gentleman, a great servant of Cork GAA, Avondhu GAA and his club Fermoy, a true GAA man. He served the County Board as a officer for nineteenth year's. He was first elected treasurer in 1964-1971 and went on to serve as Board County Chairman in 1972. After a break he returned to serve as County Board officer for 10 consective year's in a number of officerships beginning as PRO in 1978, vice chairman (1979-1981), chairman (1982-1984) and returning as PRO (1985-1987). He served as Avondhu Divisional Board Chairman for twenty six years (1961-1986) and also founded scor in 1969 the culture wing of the GAA.

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing at Ronayne’s Funeral Home, Fermoy Friday 6.00.pm. – 7.30.pm. followed by removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Fermoy. Requiem Mass Saturday at 1.00.pm. funeral afterwards to Kilcrumper Old Cemetery.
